IRAN'S RULERS REACTION
Miami Herald: Iran rejected President Bush's description of the country in his State of the Union message as one that represses people, supports terrorism and pursues weapons of mass destruction.
Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Kharrazi accused the United States of waging a propaganda campaign against its adversaries.
"America continues its wrong approach toward Iran," Kharrazi told reporters Wednesday after a Cabinet session. He also reiterated Iran's opposition to "any unilateral action against Iraq."

NEW DEMOCRATS
I was watching and following NDP’s (new democrat party) convention for all yesterday. Jack Layton has been elected for the leadership of one of significant political party in Canada, which plays an important role as an opposition in parliament. I know him and his party via some articles and interviews, published on the newspapers. I also follow the party’s news in its website from time to time. I am happy with the consequence and I wish good luck for new leader and the party.

KHATAMI IN INDIA
Iranian President Seyyed Mohammed Khatami, who will be the Chief Guest at this year's Republic Day celebrations, tonight had an informal meeting with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee shortly after his arrival on a five-day visit.
The interaction was over a private dinner hosted by the Prime Minister at his official residence.
Khatami will hold wide-ranging discussions with Vajpayee tomorrow on bilateral, regional and international issues of importance. Several agreements are expected to be inked during the visit.
Four key Iranian ministers Kamal Kharrazi (Foreign Affairs), Ali Shamkhani (Defence), Mostafa Moeen (Science and Technology) and Bijan Zangneh (Oil) are accompanying Khatami.
It seems that this visit has mostly military aims. Iran needs India’s assistance to maintain its Russian-made submarines fleet and renovate the navy facilities.

AMERICAN FORCES IN GULF IDEAL FOR "SUICIDE BOMBERS"
Kayhan Paper: Prospective Palestinian “suicide bombers” should not miss the opportunity to strike at the increased number of US forces in the region, a leading Iranian paper said Tuesday.
In an editorial in his Kayhan paper, Hossein Shariatmadari reasoned that American troops were a far easier target for "martyrdom-seeking operations" than Israelis.
"Hundreds of young Palestinians are ready to carry out martyrdom-seeking operations... so why should they not make the most of the presence of US troops in the region to take revenge", he said.
"It would be easier than carrying out such operations in Palestine."
Shariatmadari said if such “suicide attacks” started in the event of a US attack on Iraq, "without doubt the Muslim masses would mobilize to take part in this holy war". "Is the American presence in the region not a golden opportunity for those seeking martyrdom to realize their dream?" he asked.
Hussein shariatmadari is one of the key elements in hardliners camp. He runs one of the oldest and the most important newspapers in Iran. His job in newspaper as an editor is only one of tens other jobs that he has. Having the leader’s supports and access to most of classified documents, help him to lead and dictate the political attitude even before the leader. His roles in banding newspapers, arresting the dissidents, inquiring and torturing the political prisoners and opposing the reform process, are very obvious and most Iranian see him as a great obstacle in relationship between Iran and America as well.

FROM THE MOON TO THE EARTH!
What a stupid crisis was created in Iran because of an old cartoon, which was originally published 65 years ago. Picture of Roosevelt’s hand pressing on somebody’s head, which seems to be alike Khomeini. Two decades ago when Khomeini established his own favorite regime some of his supporters claimed that they saw his face in the moon and some naive people believed that and this incident brought much more popularity for Komeini. Now his admirers got mad of this old cartoon because they are very well aware that the people will laugh at it. Beside all controversies around this issue, we should admit that the picture is very similar to Khomeini and the subject of the cartoon is so suitable to Iran’s today’s situation!

MARTIN SCORSESE (Gangs of New York) Of all the movies I've seen this year, the one that has stayed most strongly in my mind is Abbas Kiarostami's "ABC Africa." Shot on video, it's about Ugandan children orphaned by the AIDS epidemic. Another filmmaker might have concentrated on the suffering of the children, but Kiarostami instead captured the joy they are still able to feel. He made a cinematic poem on the human capacity to move beyond tragedy. It's an extraordinary moving picture.
